Full President’s Report

(Presented at the AGM on September 28, 2025)

Over the past year, St Stanislaus College (Guyana) has continued to support the College in its mission of making the school the number 1 school of choice for Guyanese students and their parents.

In October 2024, 40 alumni, from Canada, the USA, UK and Caribbean, with some partners, friends of alumni and the family of Fr Feeny, arrived in Guyana. The main mission was to formally open the new Physics and Chemistry labs, paid for by the Government of Guyana, alumni, the family of Fr Feeny and obviously SSCGAS, Dr Irfaan Ali, the President of Guyana, an alumnus, was the featured speaker the night of the event.

We ran a Fall Dance at a new location, followed by the successful 2024 New Year’s Eve Gala, followed by an equally successful Spring Dance. The fundraising highlight of the year was the annual Golf Tournament on July 11, 2025, which saw us return to the Lebovic Golf Course, This tournament, with the support of the Lebovic Foundation, netted us slightly in excess of $50,000, our most successful golf tournament. We are already booked to return there for the 2026 tournament on July 17, 2026. In August, we once again collaborated with Guyana Christian Charities for Caribjam 2025. The final event planned for the 2025 year is the New Year’s Eve Gala, which will be our first fund raising event for the new fiscal year.

Worthy of mention is that we have a new website, which Ryan Devers, the son of alumnus Roger Devers, developed for SSCGAS. Ryan continues to maintain the site but we need volunteers to take over the posting of updates.

The new fiscal year of 2025/2026 will see the school attain a momentous milestone. On May 1, 2026, the school will achieve the 160th anniversary of the founding of the school by the Jesuits. There are many activities planned to mark this milestone, mainly in Guyana, but in Toronto, we will hold a dinner and dance on May 9, 2026 to mark the occasion. Planning is underway for another reunion of alumni and friends in Guyana in early November 2026. One of the highlights of that visit will be the formal opening of two new wings, for the school presently under construction.

There are challenges that we need to address. We continue to suffer a lack of volunteers to plan and execute events. Having said that, several volunteers have actively supported the Executive, and continue to do so. We need more. Our membership has stagnated and there is little growth.  The question I pose is how do we get younger alumni to join the Society and start taking over the management of its affairs?

In closing, I thank all of you who have helped to make this year a successful one. Let us look to the future for another successful 2025/2026 year.
