Saints Alumni Curry Fest Returns

On a glorious August Saturday afternoon, a group of about 45 saints’ alumni, family and friends of alumni, got together for CURRY FEST graciously hosted by Art and Joan Veerasammy at their residence backyard.

Many years ago, there was an annual crab curry fest where alumni and family and friends of alumni got together and collectively cooked crab curry, dhal, rice and the usual accompaniments.

Then COVID came, crab price soared, there were fewer volunteers, and the curry fest became dormant for many years.

Then one fateful day in Spring 2026, some wise saint boy brought up the idea of reviving the curry fest. Lo and behold, that not to be named saints boy, let the idea to take on legs and then a small group of suckers 😊 decided that “ok fine, this is a good idea”, and started the planning.

Alas! The price for crab was still too expensive, and you know, since most of us are retirees 😊, it was decided that the revival would bring chicken curry. Well, over the course of time, I guess people’s palates and dietary preferences changed so an element of ‘vegetarianism’ was added.

Suffice it to say, it was an amazing afternoon of prepping and cooking, together with fun, food, drinks, camaraderie, a toast to Sherlock Martin’s birthday, kudos for everyone for the part they played in organizing the event and promises of returning to an annual event.

Let’s see if that saints boy – who will still remain nameless – will take up the reins.
